I went into my local Best Buy to look at tv stands and the very 1st row of movies that and the very 1st shelving into the store even is all the HD DVD's which used to be a few shelving row's back. HD DVD has a end cap and also like in a diff area up front upon entering the store is the xbox 360 HD addon in the video game area. Just thought Id share.

Its just the total opposite in the 3 BB in my area you have to LOOK for HD-DVD movies and players its all about the Blu-ray..

I was in 2 of our local BBs about 10 days ago and each had an hd-dvd endcap but both were further back in the store and on smaller tvs than their blu counterparts the stores each devote equal rack space to hd/bd at least in the media aisles.
Seems like it's evening out where I am. Toshiba endcaps up where they used to not be. Parity with the movie selection. And the salespeople out here aren't pushing one over the other. Look there are many more BD players out there which aren't selling so BB has to throw those out there on an endcap to try and sell them. But people will continue to see the lower price of the Toshiba and the picture being just as good and that will help.
Prehapps some are seeing past the blu haze and seeing HD can offer just as much in terms of PQ and AQ for half the price

At my BB its easy to find HD DVD players but bluray are non-existent. Software wise its a bit more bluray than HD DVD as for some reason. 3 shelves labelled HD DVD are empty where they were full before. LIP

My local BB has 2 big displays side by side. One each for HD DVD and BR. The BR is slightly bigger. In the TV section they have 2 displays in the front for BR and one for HD DVD with 42 to 46 inch LCDs. There is another display further back a 56 inch LCD with the Planet Earth HD DVD. It has been like this for about 2 months now.

Hi. Im a new poster long time lurker. The two BB's in my area Joliet and Bolingbrook Il practically hide the HD-DVD stuff. I asked one of the sales guy about HD-DVD players his response was. " Idon't know where they are. You might want to check over in Magnolia." He was a member of the Audio/Video dept.
OK thanks. My nearest local Best Buy (Columbia Maryland) has about a 50%/50% split for media for the two formats. But clearly tilts (both in number and in placement) toward Blu-ray when it comes to their displays for players. I guess this varies from locality to locality.
My BB can't seem to keep HD DVD players in stock. They sell all they get. Really interesting is the local Costco. They had a full pallet of HD-A2's and you would see a few sold over a month but after the Paramount announcement the whole pallet was sold in less than a week.
My local BB seems to be neutral there are two HD DVD displays and two Blu-Ray displays. They have an equal amount of shelf space for both formats.
Mine is split both HD & BD share the same row in the store (1 row from entrance) and are divided equally in half on the row. There are also 2 endcaps playing HD-DVD & 2 endcaps playing BD.. Very equal in my store except they sell out of the A2 unit all the time..
WTH?!?!?! That's my local BB (less than 5 minutes from the house)! I guess I should get out of the video games section more often. Never even noticed the change.
The Best Buy down the road from my house (Naperville. Illinois) is the highest grossing Best Buy in the country. From the start the software sections have been pretty much split down the middle. They are both stocked pretty well and very up to date with new releases. They have 1 Samsung BD endcap. 1 Pioneer BD endcap. 1 Toshiba HD DVD endcap. They also have a Xbox 360 on the same endcap as the Samsung. I think it was for the HD DVD Add-On. I believe they have been sold out for quite sometime. Not sure if its lack of stock or the fact there may be people with rainchecks taking any available stock. There are also BD and HD DVD players on several HD displays in Magnolia. From what I have seen for the past year is that the BD players do not move stock. Not compared to the HD DVD players. They never have stock on any of the them. They also sell the display models all the time (excluding the endcap). Most Best Buys are very similar when it comes to product stock and displays. However many of the Best Buys throughout the country are small in comparison to others. So they can only display so much. So any company paying for encaps or other forms of advertisement will take the first available room on the store floor. It has nothing to do with pushing a product. "Official" endcap displays are paid for by the manufacturer.
My BB has an even split in the movie aisle plus one endcap for each (software). There are 2 Blu-ray player endcaps and one HD DVD although it's not immediately obvious what these are. If I wasn't an enthusiast. I'd think they were pushing hi-def televisions and not even realize these were next gen players hooked up to them.
One thing I'm noticing is that all the HD DVD endcaps are officially decked out with Toshiba stuff. The side plates the A-20 with the product info card on top and the free movie coupons. The only official BD displays seem to be the Sony ones where they may have bought their endcaps. You'll see the Sony info cards and stuff on them. But not all stores have them. The store closest to me that has 1 HD DVD and 1 BD endcap out next to Magnolia. But the BD display is a Samsung which has no advertising or anything associated with it except the price tag. No BD ads and a couple movies shoved underneath. The same with the Timonium store. They had 2 BD displays but they weren't next to each other and only the Sony display had any marketing gear on it. Which begs the question will we see more HD DVD endcaps when Onkyo and Integra hit with their players? And is anyone going to endcap a dual format Samsung?
Hey guys sorry for the quality of these pictures. It's hard to tell how it comes out on a cameraphone. And I don't think Best Buy would take kindly to me walking in and snapping pictures of their endcaps with my big Fuju FinePix.
This is the Toshiba endcap at the Bel Air. MD store. Sorry it's so blurry:
This is the sole BD endcap featuring a Samsung player. Again. I couldn't get close enough because the sales guys were still hanging around:
I am going to see if I can get a better Toshiba pic this weekend and I'll update my gallery.
I think my localcoon rapids best buy has the same displays. Their a new one that about 10 miles closer. But it like a best buy light. As they are about a 1/3 of the size of any others. Mostly media drivin as the first 1/3 is movies and cds and the back 1/8 is gaming. Both PC and console. They have a small PC section and TV/ HT area. Thats itThe car radios are outside in a seprate shop. Which I find odd.
Here in Reno the BB store has become a lot more HD DVD friendly. They have a HD DVD end cap running all the time and a Panasonic and Sony BD end cap which most of the time is not even up and running. BTW I was there today and two guys together (maybe brothers) were buying two HDTV's two xBox systems and several games. I told them the only thing they were missing was the xBox add-on HD DVD player so off they went and came back with two players and four movies (LOL I sold two HD DVD players).
