Hello folks,New board member here. Our church is beginning a new Television Ministry. I have been researching several cameras and have tentatively settled on the HVX200. We would be purchasing 3 cameras and mastering to BetaSP. (Using FCP and 2 Alesis 24HD's for audio capturing)Does anyone have any input as to the viability or liability of using the HVX200 for this task?Thanks in advance for your help b3enthusiast Are you shooting the church service or segments to be played back in service? There are other cameras better suited for that. You should be fine with the HVX but maybe you should try a test shoot before buying 3 cameras. The HVX needs a fair amount of light to get a great picture. I'm sure you could find someone who would donate their time/camera or charge a modest rental fee. Also put a camera at the back of the church to see if you need a long lens (teleconvertor). THe HVX would be great for this purpose as long as the sanctuary has adequate lighting. These days most do. Should you want to ever switch the cameras that is also possible even without genlock as now there are S video and even firewire switchers. I built a TV ministry using ENG camcorders on large Pelco security camera remote mounts along with VX-1000's in more conspicuous locations over 10 years ago and the results looked great.

I've got an edit communicate coming in next week that I've got a challenge about. Most of the footage was shot on HVX (720p60/23.98). But because of defy they weren't able to choose up shots in one or two locations and for that we'll be to pick up footage from BetaSP from a previous shoot. For a seven-minute video maybe thirty to forty seconds will come from the BetaSP. Final delivery is on BetaSP and SD DVD. I'm working on a Mac Pro with FCS2.0 and have access to a Kona LHe separate if needed. Should I edit the SD footage in an HD timeline and upconvert or downconvert the HVX footage to SD knowing that my final delivery is in SD anyway? Should I use Compressor to do the down-conversion ahead of measure?Any back up would be greatly appreciated. I just want to alter sure I set things up right from the go away. I am about to begin working with a Panasonic HVX200 recording HD to P2 cards. I have a legacy of analog formats (primarily BetaSP) that I also need to edit in FCP. Is there a card for the analog from Black Magic or AJA? I undergo seen the AJA Io but hear there is a simpler separate solution for the A/D. Can anyone help? I'd also appreciate any help with a solid system configuration for FCP to command the above - also any storage and archiving ideas. Been editing with change integrity/Accom products for 14 years and could use a little help easing into the 21st century. Thanks for any discuss. I'd say use a capture card to upconvert the footage for you. Upconvert it to DVCPro HD and then cut it alter in there with your P2 footage. There will be pillarboxing but you can deal with how you want to communicate that later. I accept also there is just a a comprehend of cropping along the top and bottom. Do a bring together of evaluate captures to see how much you're losing and if its of concern to you or not. If it is then you might want to interpret SD and do a software upconversion. But from my recollection its pretty minimal cropping. The software option is to just alter it as is and let FCP upconvert it for you. Either by making everything requiring rendering (in FCP 5) or using a mixformat timeline (in FCP 6). We've done a few in FCP uprez's and they've turned out okay. I'm comfort a bit partial to hardware upconversion though myself. Oh also you could bring it in as SD and use Compressor to group alter it to DVCPro HD as well. As for the cards. I desire the AJA Kona series. The Kona 3 being your best choice but maybe too pricey. You can come drink a bit to the Kona LHe. Its a fairly strong separate as come up. Both have HDSDI in so can command upconversions for you. I haven't looked at the BMD lineup in a while so can't really comment on a specific card from them. But I would imagine one of their HD solutions would bring home the bacon for you. Just alter sure it can do the upconversion. But again. I'm simply partial to this solution at the end of the day you could just go to a software solution to do it all. As for the FCP system end now for FCP 5 or 6 and stick with it for at least the current project. Don't grade inbetween. There are umm "fun" quirks potentially to come about. Not everyone has run into them but we surely undergo. Otherwise hard drives hard drives hard drives. If you're going to take everything to DVCPro HD and cut at that you're going to need some space. Get some hard drives for your cutting and some for backing up the P2 footage. Also impel a bunch of RAM at FCP (I'd do 4GB at least). As for easing into the Final Cut Pro world. I built a 1440X1080 30-second TV spot in FCP 6.0.1. It's a series of stills with decrease moves and disolve transitions. What are my media options for delivering it to out-of-town stations?So far all I've found is DigiBeta (don't have). BetaSP (can do) or using a function desire DG or Vyvx (I evaluate these services are costly and designed for bigger shops). My goal is to avoid the degradation of converting to analog. Has anyone tried delivering a QuickTime movie file on CD or DVD to TV stations? The merchandise person at one of the stations I asked didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Am I needlessly obsessing? Should I just print to BetaSP and get on with my life? Most local tv stations are going to want it on BETA at the beat Digibeta. understand a lot of local tv stations are comfort shooting BETA or DVCPRO. Most don't have Digi beta decks and are comfort using BETA. The DVCPRO station I work out of here locally during Spring Training builds a bay with a beta to DVCPRO editing station so we can cater the tapes on their change. In my merchandise 1 displace is BETA the other 2 are DVCPRO. It all depends on the stations but just about every one of them has a beta be somewhere to dub it to their change for playback. So yes my advice is to put it on BETA and move on. Unless they specifically request a certain change.
