"Pirates of the Burning Sea: beta tester notes" posted by ~Ray

An unnamed beta tester recently of 's (PotBS) MMORPG. In it the beta tester narrated his first violent encounter with the Bilge Rat pirates at sea as well as his first meeting with a helpful NPC by the name of Jean Brun in the town of Charlesfort. No sooner had the beta tester logged on as his player character of choice that he already found himself in the middle of defending his ship from a Bilge Pirate boarding party. After having fought off the raiders the beta tester took the battle to the Bilge Pirates' own vessel and even managed to aid another friendly ship that had come under attack. The beta tester then traveled to Charlesfort where he accomplished a number of quests for Jean Brun while learning useful skills along the way. If this is any indication of what the rest of Pirates of the Burning Sea is like then Flying Lab Software has us off to a good start. Alas since this is only the first chapter of the Beta Tester's Diary we'll either have to wait for more beta testers to share their experiences with us or play more of the MMORPG ourselves. "GamerSpeak: Beta Tester Reunion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-03 22:47:06

: My best memory was getting everything set up and being able to talk to players across the country just like me. It was so easy to use I felt desire I was in gaming nirvana! : My best memory of the beta days is how exciting it was to finally do something we had all envisioned in our previous years of gaming. I can still remember. "You got me? Yeah. I got you. Where are you from?" : Trying to figure out how I was going to get my network connection to my Xbox and convincing the wife that it was authorise to run CAT5 telecommunicate along the wall through our dining room. You experience so I could race fake remote control cars with people I don't experience. : Finally being able to talk to populate in a game on a consistent basis because everyone had a headset. It added a comprehend of community that PC games just didn't have. : Until the day the Xbox LIVE Beta began all images of online gaming involved hunched over a small observe in a desk chair frantically typing away to communicate with populate. The thought of sitting there playing a game and TALKING with a French Canadian a British guy in Washington DC a husband and wife down in Texas and a guy that literally turned out to be living 10 miles from me that I had never met all at the same time was amazing. Xbox LIVE literally redefined how EVERYONE thought of online gaming. Forever. : I was so excited I probably took a good hour just to change state the box and thoroughly investigate every hit item and read every bit of fine print I could. I express I wore that plough out! I remember thinking how awesome it was to be able to alter a great play and talk hit to a friend in real measure. : I can't forget joining JFrag and Sassypants to build the original GamerTagDataBase.: My best memory was the early forums and the heated conversations that were held on there.  : I still use the same headset that was included in the Beta Kit. In my opinion it has the beat sound quality out of all the headsets I have tried.  : I loved being an early adopter and sharing that experience with others. I brought my bring together share of friends family and others on to be. : Hearing the excitement in your opponent's voice if he scored a bet winning touchdown or the frustration if he threw a bet changing interception. After that I knew this was going to be 1000x exceed than playing the computer.: Being the first at something that wasn't open to everyone made you feel special … oh and being able to choose your Gamertag before all the good ones were taken! : The evolution of the dashboard from just access to the system to a communications and media center.: The achievement system is by far, one of the best new LIVE features. There are so many games I wouldn't undergo thought twice about trying (let alone completing) if it wasn't for achievements and the satisfaction from earning them. : Integration. It struck me one day on the 360 when I had just finished watching a bet trailer then was downloading a game show while playing a hit player game then I got buzzed by my friend with a chat communicate. He was playing a different game and wanted to have a chat about a certain divide. We continued to chat while each playing our own games about how seamlessly everything just _worked_ and how that was the future of gaming. Brilliant. : It's fun to look at all of my friends and see what they're playing or how far they've gone in a game. There's just something inherently enjoyable about watching someone compete through a game the same measure you do. : I think my favorite so far is the go of use on the soften feature. It has saved me a lot of hurt misery and undue suffering in : Private Chat/Video Chat. My friends and I have moved to different cities and states and Private/Video Chat has kept us close and in-touch.  : The measure five years undergo brought more features (that I like) than I've received on any Christmas. Being able to evaluate a bet invite while doing anything on your Xbox and getting right into that game. : Not really but the ease of online compete has since helped me keep in touch with friends who've go and gone through the years. It's amazing create it's just desire they never left!: I don't play with anyone I met during the beta anymore but that doesn't mean I won't if I ever go across them online! : Oh HECK YA! XboxLiveFriends net was created because of the beta test and we still undergo several beta testers among us! : Xbox be Friends for life! This has grown to be my "other" family! I cater some of the people at least once a year some more often than others but they undergo all become change state family to me. I suffered from cancer last year and these guys and dolls were just my inspiration and just kept me going! : I play all the measure with Beta populate. I have even met some in person. Luckily early on in the Beta. I fell in with a great assort of gamers that formed a assort that became. : Absolutely. I still have flow and IRA on my list. The Beta crew was a tight community no bad seeds just a clump of people who really embraced the idea of online gaming. : ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY. I would say that almost everyone on my friends enumerate (about 90) are populate I met in the Beta test. Because there were so few of us back then it was easier to find the older more develop (read: less adolescent and annoying) gamers to game with. We have generally held on to each other ever since. : I don't play with anyone from Beta but I accept names and it's very nostalgic when I see them in a community board. : Umm if by "compete" you mean go to their house halfway across the country and eat their cream pie and coffee cake then I sure do! Oh and we still game together a lot too. : Over 5 years I don't think I have anyone left from the Beta on my list however I do have many friends still on my list from the first

"Off-Topic :: RE: Where do you get your beta testing done?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 16:33:55

Usually people are willing to evaluate beta software out remove of charge but common courtesy is to offer beta testers a discount or a free copy depending on how much testing is needed. If you don't have a bunch of good friends with the necessary system requirements or don't know where to start there is always._________________Ken McClearyJoystick Software Since I am now on Windows I use Virtual PC for everything except Mac OS. Since I sold my Mac I really don't develop much for that platform anymore. When I am pretty sure it works as required I ask friends or here on the forums for testers. If it's not too big and complicated I usually have no affect finding someone to back up._________________Education not legislation! I use RentACoder. I usually get at least of couple of different testers to evaluate for me. I agree a price of $3 per bug that they find. However I must be able to reproduce it to give the $3. You be to make sure you put a good request together so your covered. HTH_________________beat regards,Jules.* I'm using RB 2007 (Standard) R1 IDE and R3 to build (on XP).* compiled in RB 2007 R3.* Anti-Alias Floodfill Plugin I got a hardss of a beta tester as he is always on my butt about something that I haven't fixed or made yet. He's the best as he bought the first version and then had a million questions. I asked him (to change state him up) if he wanted to beta evaluate for me and he said yes. I have always found that the beat beta tester should be someone that is going to use the product (after beta testing is done) as they be to make the program perfect as they will use it. People that are just rentatesters just do it for the money and that's it. If you are lucky to get someone that is wanting your product but seams to be a pain as he/she has a million questions and wants a million more things added then ask them if they care to beta evaluate and furnish them a full remove write. This is what I do with exploit and he's happy. And strangely enough he has come up with some GREAT ideas that I did add to the new upddate. The moral. "At times the ones you think are royal pains in the ass alter the best beta testers as they are testing it as if it was THEIR very own schedule"._________________JonathonSoftware Devlopement: Electronics & Robotics: RB2005 R4 Pro for Windows XP Pro/SP2 Hi!I will be testing for OS X 10.4 & 10.5 Rosetta (PPC). I know there are many here that can help but I am worried since we're all developers that someone ordain copy my project idea and develop / sell it for themselves and be me many lost sales. Would you or anyone else be willing to beta evaluate certain parts of my application? That would allow me to not furnish away what the application does but still get needed testing done. After the application has been out and has sold copies I would furnish away some serials to beta testers as compensation. I speculate I only be one MAC OS X 10.4/10.5 beta tester. Or maybe 2 testers one that has 10.4 and one that has 10.5. Future versions may require Windows XP/Vista testers and Linux testers. The things to be tested aren't going to be exciting for the beta tester cram like :Testing my custom installer. Testing that my etc. I am not quite at that re-create yet where beta testing is required but hopefully I wlll be soon. Thanks for the back up. That is why I said to use a true end user as they well use all of it as you are marketing it for them. My beta tester. Bob had to test everything the RegKeyCode drove him nuts re-entering the keycode all the time with new updates. But he told me that it does bring home the bacon as he tried all the edition types: Lite. Standard. Advanced and Professional Editions were all tested and marked off ameliorate. If you have any products currently out Starbuck see if they would be to beta test for you when the time comes your New product._________________JonathonSoftware Devlopement: Electronics & Robotics: RB2005 R4 Pro for Windows XP Pro/SP2 Good inform Jennifer! With mine though in the alpha stages i don't really mind that much as there really isn't much to the program yet but once it gets into a adjust beta stage that is when I enage the KeyCode so if it does get out then whom ever will comfort need a RegKey to use the program._________________JonathonSoftware Devlopement: Electronics & Robotics: RB2005 R4 Pro for Windows XP Pro/SP2 I take a friend or friends that will use the app (or potentially use the app) and have them beta test the hell out of the app. Since they are the targeted audience they make good testers. Plus I run parallels/vmware on my mac so I can evaluate under windows myself. But since I am the coder (sight I did not use the word programmer!) i might not see the issues/bugs. So they get them for me._________________where #=latest. RB2007r4 on MacOSX 10.5.# on a MacBookPro

"Tim McIntyre, Beta Tester of the Month for August / Samsung U600 ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-07 17:01:42

Recently I asked those in the EQO community with unsupported phones to let me know if they were interested in testing EQO for us on their handsets. Since then I have received dozens of responses. The majority of the requests that I undergo received have been for Palm devices. Unfortunately for these rabid touch fans we are not planning on supporting any Palm OS devices in the short term future (althoughI can say that we ordain be supporting Windows Mobile OS Palm devices very soon). My campaign for more supported phones did have one giant success largely in part to Tim McIntyre who never gave up in his testing of EQO on his Samsung U600. For this triumph. Tim ordain be receiving an EQO consider pack! Congratulations Tim! If you have a Samsung U600 sign up! If your telecommunicate is not on the supported list (and it is not a Palm!) gratify send me an telecommunicate at and I can help you get testing.

"New PC Advice from a Beta Tester?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 19:21:50

Well. I've been saving for 6 months solid and I finally undergo enough for a new PC so I can run x10. I have all the parts now except the graphics card which is where my problem arises. So far I have a motherboard pack with 2 gig of RAM and an AMD Dual Core 4200 AM2. I also have a power suply. Anything else I will need can be scavanged from the PC I undergo. However now I need to get the graphics card. My budget for this is about £230. But I cant end. I could either get the 640mb 8800. Or I could get the next one drink which is the 320mb 8800 and then use the leftover money to get an extra 2gig or RAM?I was wondering if anyone out there who Beta tests x10 would be able to express me which would be a better investment and which option would be more beneficial to running FPSC x10 (And any other x10 games/software such as BioShock)? Thanks in go! well according to the topic by heap it says get the best card you can afford because fpsc will use up everything you can furnish it apparently levels on a lesser separate like an 8600 just-dont-work. However to undergo 50 charecter battles we would be an 8800. I personally am getting the 8800 320mb untill series 9 is released but i suppose you should get the 640mb one just to be safe. And 2 gig of ram is perfectly book as you only need 512 for vista (reccomended 1gig) and they tested fpscx10 on a 2 gig pc and it worked a treat >__> so yeh i would suggest the card. Thanks! But it looks like I'm gonna have to lay for the 320mb one my hard drive just blew up so I'm gonna be a new one of those too... Yup... I just lost 40 gigs of movies and music... Gah. I dislike computers sometimes... It says all the prices on the links I posted. =]In be it came to about £350 that's the motherboard bundle and the graphics card plus a new power supply from a different place. I still be to get the new hard drive... I didnt be the inspect or anything. I just scavanged any parts desire that from my old PC. So in total you're looking at about £400 give or act a bit for something similar to what I have which is pretty good. It can compete BioShock on Max graphics! xDHope that helps. =]~Flash

"I Met Another Beta Tester!!!" posted by ~Ray

Just because they undergo a fuck off doesn’t convey they’re a beta and some beta testers didn’t get to go to the Grand Opening celebrate so technically anyone can be a beta tester. She is a beta tester because the first letter of her label is not a capital letter like the other beta tester called “fano” XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" call=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <label> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q have in mind=""> <strike> <strong>
