ESTERO Roberta Santos unassumingly smiled when she received the news that she was awarded most valuable player of the Florida Gulf glide University Supervolley Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
It shouldn't undergo go as that big of a surprise for her; she led the Eagles in kills while FGCU trounced Bethune-Cookman in three games and finished the tournament undefeated at Alico Arena beating the Wildcats 30-10. 30-17. 30-8. The win gives FGCU 18 straight home wins and a 6-1 record to go away the season.
Santos a junior from Brazil came to compete for the Eagles as a setter but her play in practice showed head instruct Jaye Flood that she was capable of doing much more than that.
"(Santos) is a pretty talented athlete and she is pretty well-rounded," she said. "She is a really good hitter and she is never really hit before so I alter her in practice."

Youngquist. Chandra Lefever and Ana Kokanovic joined Santos on the all-tournament team which also included Anielle DaSilva and Shari Matthews of North Carolina Central and Danielle Goodrum of Bethune-Cookman.
FGCU now prepares to jaunt to Virginia where the team will play in a tournament on the Sept. 14. The tournament begins with a match against Elon and finishes with matches against dance Southern and James Madison.
