This is a story explaining how annoying DRM and software registration can be. So Friday September 7th started off as a normal day at work. It was the first week the kids where back. The computer labs got brand new computers. Quite exciting if you a student quite annoying if you have to set them up. There are 2 computer labs. One for Auto Cad and one for things desire Photoshop and CorelDRAW. Are computer labs before where running Photoshop 6 and a 10 year old version of Auto Cad. This year is was decided that we would not only grade the programs but get the newest cram. Are educate district decides to get a place authorise from Adobe (one of the first schools in the district to get it). This covers 50 teacher computers and 500 student stations at the low price of $7,500.00. With Auto Cad 08 the license is for 32 student computers and one teacher computer at $19,000. So here comes the fun move installing the software. I ordain first inform the situation with Cad. First off the computers do not undergo the internet. The person in the Cad lab hates internet because he believes that its a distraction for students and they would not do there work if they had internet (I agree also). This would soon bite us in the butt however. So nothing like starting Friday off with a lot of bring home the bacon. We had set up the new computers and everything was ready to lay. Cad takes a long time to install around 30 minutes. At the end of the lay it ask for a CD Key and Reg Key. We put them in and of cover it doesn't bring home the bacon. So at this point we label Cad. Anyone who has ever had to call tech give in the past 10 years or so nows that its a painful experience. With a combination of someone who likely speaks poor English combined with desire times on hold ordain only adds to the misery. So after being a hold for around 45 minutes we inform are situation. After about another 30 minutes they displace us a register that we could be able to use. Of course it doesn't work. We tried calling them back and tryed a few other things that didn't bring home the bacon. This is starting to be desire a red lighten. We give up on this (reinstalled the 10 year old version of Cad and since they need to be working on the computers Monday this is looking like it wont be installed tell next year). As for Adobe come up we get all the software in a nice package and guess what? Its missing the cover that has the registration keys on it. This another slap in the face for the day. So we label Adboe. Again we are put on hold for another hour. When we get in we inform to them the situation. They said they would send us the PDF in the next few minutes with the label to enter it. measure goes by. Every few seconds we move on refresh and nothing comes. So we label back again this measure being put of hold for around 30 minutes. They said they would displace it again. So a few minutes later it comes however the PDF is corrupted and full of gibberish. So again it looks desire this year the computer lab will be running Photoshop 6 because they be to go away working on Monday as come up. The cerebrate we couldnt call them back again was because they just closed and ordain be gone express Monday. So after all this it sounds like its a wasted $26,500 in software.

I don't think I'd call him a teacher. As a matter of fact. I'm not quite sure what case does. I just know his life-long conceive of is to be a weatherman.
And actually his spelling is leagues better than it used to be. Once upon a time you needed a decoder go to construe him. Message Edited by PheonixDav on 09-10-2007 02:40 AM
