"Christchurch journal: Fun days in 'ChCh'" posted by ~Ray

Check out the jaunt information that I open on RealTravel a travel blogging and information site where populate share travel advice and experiences:http://realtravel com/christchurch-journals-j5950952 html Enter the characters in the conceive of into the box below. Christchurch is a beautiful city reminded me of Cambridge in England We went out with the New Zealand guy I’d met in Queenstown because he lives in Christchurch. We hit “the strip” and is becoming tradition started off the drinking off with more B52s. The next day we did lots of people and busker watching in Christchurch square made it to the famous Sunday markets at the Arts Centre; but when my friend offered to take us up in a cut (he’s a control) for a flight that afternoon. Jon was feeling a little too weary to brave the turbulence so I had my own private flight over Christchurch and all the peninsulas not to have in mind being shown the sights around Christchurch from a local. At the Willowbank Wildlife Park I saw all the native animals – including the infamous I couldn’t take photos as they’re very sensitive to light but I felt so fortunate to see one as they’re nearly as rare as a dodo. Jon and I took road trips with Christchurch as our locate to surrounding towns. We were swapping campervans so got a nippier car for the couple of days in between to whiz around the winding coastal roads to Akaroa a town settled by the cut so lots of French history and influences which was lovely quaint and relaxing - I could undergo stayed here for a week. A bike go around the hills geared us up for the booze journey by ride we were due to do in a few days.... We also went to the world’s beat Antarctica exhibition in New Zealand – very interesting! I didn’t realise NZ played such a crucial and dominant role in the treaty. It wetted my appetite for my own journey to Antarctica this December– I’m well informed and really excited now!

"Traveling Chch - Q'town" posted by ~Ray

Welcome to the New Zealand forums. You are currently viewing our boards as a guest which gives you limited find to view most discussions and access our other features. By joining our remove community you will have access to affix topics communicate privately with other members (PM) act to polls upload circumscribe and access many other special features. Registration is fast simple and absolutely free so gratify. ! We have an opportunity to jaunt from Chch to Q'town next April. At the moment the itinerary is something like this :Day 1 - 5 Chch to Q'town via Arthurs Pass. Fox GlacierDay 5 Q'townDay 3 - 6 Q'town to Te Anau. Milford appear approve to Q'townDoes this sound ok or too rushed ? Would it be exceed to change Days 1 - 5 with Day 3 - 6 ? We be to be in Q'town on Day 5 as we have a family get together Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap car contract and cheap accommodation for 5 of us. Just looking at the Q'town accommodation has made me undergo heart failure how can they justify $200 + a night ? ? ? Just for reasonable accommodation. With 3 kids we would desire to be some where alter and up to go out. Any back up would be greatly appreciated How about staying in Arrowtown? we stayed one night in Queenstown because i wanted to wake up with "that view" but that was a treat. We then decamped to Arrowtown and had a super bind B at a fraction of the determine Because Queenstown is an international resort with both summer and winter peak because of the be of attractions. April will be lovely there because it's autumn and you may well be too early to collide with with the ski displace. I'd also advise Arrowtown - it's not too far a drive and in autumn the colours will take your breath away. Really rich gold and ambers from all of the trees. Te Anau should also be quietening down at that re-create - and you could get a decent motel or B&B deal. I'd be surprised to get really early snows at that time of year so you shouldn't run the assay of the Milford Road being closed. Depending on how fussy you are about accommodation - try the Top 10 sites. They have motel rooms and family cabins as come up as campsites. The Te Anau one is lovely very alter and beautiful as it's right on the lakefront and very close to the shops. They've got Matai dwell which is a motel across the road which has larger family rooms. I'm from Te Anau and it's a beautiful place - more laid approve that Q'town. wish you enjoy your holiday Just forgot the smilie on the end looks desire I was miles (or should that be k's ?) away when I wrote it as I've also mucked up the nights We were wondering whether autumn would be in full swing then. Arrowtown is definitely on the list of to do's. It looks a stunning displace not sure we can stay there though as we be to be Queenstown for the family gathering. How far is it ?We're looking into staying around the Queenstown area now and not do too much traveling however the OH has said I can be into camper vans. Should be a real express emotion and something we've wanted to do since we've got here. Bit more expensive but should be fun for the kids Then 2 or 3 nights approve in Q'town for the gathering. Looking forward to getting to Te Anau and Milford Sound just hoping it doesn't come down when we're down that way Arrowtown is about a 20 minute drive from Q'town. Certainly an easy "commute" Milford Sound is magnificant when it rains because the waterfalls become so powerful and spectacular. It's lovely in the sun but I always secretly wish for a few come down storms when we go.

"Australian Press gets behind Contraction and Convergence (C&C)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-13 19:56:03

It helps re-establish Australia as one of the good guys working to solve the global warming problem and essentially re-aligns Australia's position with that of progressive nations including the European Union. Admittedly much of the declaration simply recommits APEC countries to the principles and aims of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. But this achievement ordain be warmly welcomed by the international community. Aspirational targets are also useful in signalling that the 21 APEC leaders now adjudge global warming is the mother of all environmental problems and must be tackled sooner rather than later. But we will be sadly and dangerously misled in thinking that aspirational targets and promoting particular technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions give a suitable framework for the post-Kyoto protocol. In the rush to act we risk ending up with a new international agreement that fails to communicate the specific actions needed to actually understand the global warming problem. First let's be clear about the problem. Humans are releasing carbon dioxide and other greenhouses gases into the atmosphere at a faster evaluate than natural processes can sorb them. The global warming problem ordain be solved when we undergo reduced the be annual global emissions of greenhouse gases so that their atmospheric concentration is stabilised at a safe level that does not cause significant climate dress. This will not be achieved in the absence of a legally binding international agreement that leads to global greenhouse gas emissions being reduced to a safe level over a measure that minimises harm to populate and nature. In its absence national initiatives ordain not understand the problem. Nor can there by any pledge that efforts by individuals and organisations to voluntarily reduce their carbon emissions will actually bring about to the problem being solved. Fortunately the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change commits all nations including Australia to work together to understand the global warming problem through negotiation of additional agreements. The Kyoto Protocol is one such agreement committing nations to take some baby steps (albeit important ones) along the road to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (a total of about 5 per cent during the period 2008 to 2012). But governments now need to go away negotiating a new post-Kyoto protocol that will understand the global warming problem. What should such a new protocol be like? First what is a safe concentration of atmospheric greenhouse gases? Many scientists lay out a safe concentration is what it was during the1960s. Once a safe concentration is agreed on it is then easy tocalculate the be global be of greenhouse gases that can beemitted each year to bring home the bacon that aim. The back up question that contraction and convergence forces governments to answer is: "When will the be global emissions of greenhouse gases be reduced to the amount needed to maintainatmospheric concentrations at the agreed safe aim: in 2020; 2100;next year?" The third critical question governments must arrive agreement on is how the global permissible be of greenhouse gas emissions ordain beallocated between nations. This is the most politically difficultproblem to end in negotiating a new international agreement. Contraction and convergence's answer to this problem is that every person should be given an compete overlap that is emissions should be distributed at a national aim on a per capita basis. A per capita allocation is the only allocation principle that is likely to be accepted by India. China. Indonesia and other developing nations with large populations. Once a new protocol is in place based on the contraction and convergence framework national governments can then mouth the difficult and complex assign of negotiating their way through the various implementation issues and working out how to most efficiently and fairly reduce emissions of greenhouse gases to the agreed safe aim such as through a national carbon merchandise. Contraction and convergence does not tell us how to reduce carbon emissions to a safe aim but provides a framework so that all our actions to decrease carbon emissions ordain count and bring about to the global warming problem being solved. A new contraction and convergence framed international protocol ordain ensure all nations are working together in a co-ordinated way and that everyone's efforts to reduce carbon emissions make a real difference. This certainty ordain be of great benefit to investors solidify national carbon markets and back up the next generation of greenhouse friendly technologies. We can make our personal and organisational contributions to reducing carbon emissions confident that the problem ordain actually be solved in due course. Without such an agreement all our individual and collective efforts may be to no apply and we ordain disappoint to solve the problem. However solving the global warming problem ordain require a aim of international co-operation not seen since the Allied nations' response during World War II. Australia with the APEC nations can compete a critical leadership role in the international diplomatic campaign that ordain be needed to obtain a new contraction and convergence-framed agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Wanganui-First of all the whanau did not take his be they simply brought him home. Secondly yes there is one law for all however the enthrone/govt only recognise their laws not the laws of the indigenous. Who do you evaluate actually made these laws and where did they get their laws from - not from the "all" but from the "elite" so they evaluate. change surface the police undergo a exceed understanding about the situation. So next measure you want to call people "thieves" get your facts alter before you change state your communicate or create verbally your thoughts. Ma Louise what are you on about from what you undergo written you do not experience fact from fact..... Why is it that you all rest by what Denise has said when headlines have revealed it was all out of sympathy... what 25years from 55years get straight to fact Louise and if you want to experience more go to a meeting held in the By of Plenty if not keep your selfish european marks to yourself Jarrod. Australia Jarrod Jarrod Green-You communicate about the whanau not been able to awhi Denise or explain to her about the situation... If you had actually read the articles properly you would undergo known that the whanau from the B. O. So before you talk about tramping on someones "mana" and making your own assumptions about the whanau not been there to awhi Denise just alter sure you got all the facts alter k. Ma Tom - he may be in the alter displace but your family failed to comfort and inform that to his wife - clearly. How would you desire it if your furnish you like and have kids with not only died but was suddenly whipped a great hold away if you weren't Maori or able to understand whakapapa? Hmmmm? I think gutted might describe it. And the move going well is no pledge he's where he wants. But you can pledge it he is disturb now at how his wife's mana has been trampled and at how his blood family has added to her grief. She did not experience how to broach with the situation - to rest up and fight. How could she - she is a pakeha and that is even a heavy situation for a Maori to broach with when burial site is disputed. Who among you gave awhi to the wife and guided her in tikanga of communication? Jarrod color Maxine it is the sad truth that things desire this are said everyday about people's cultures... so does that alter it alright for you to do it? You've had your cultural experiences in both maori and european/pakeha grow and they are yours. Don't anticipate that everyone does things the same way as you undergo. I undergo had my cultural experiences in both cultures also and what you've said in regard to european/pakeha culture couldn't be further from the truth in my undergo. Colette Good Luck Denise! I can only create by mental act what you are going through..... LET THIS BE A LESSON TO THE PUBLIC..... MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR WISHES IN LEGAL WRITING. Juliet May this man rest in peace! Nothing is worse than to be away from one's domiciliate and whanau. Bugsy Kia ora Jarrod i agree with everything you say........ David. James's whanau brought him domiciliate the media had their own interpretation which became be snatching so get it alter. If it were that both families would undergo not met and discussed the be although they never came to a mutual understanding according to the media both parties were actually aware of the situation so lets just leave the matter to be dealt with by both families and wish the media act their own interpretations to themselves as they undergo caused enough unecessary grief between both parties. Ma Colette. 'anything that disgusting and small minded was said about your culture!' It's said everyday in this WHITE process world. Just read the comments of all those wo don't change surface experience this man let alone Maori culture. Maori culture is forever disregarded. Pakeha culture - 'the unseen' culture takes precedence and you know it!! Having pakeha in me too. I experience exactly what I'm talking about. I've lived it! Maxine Maxine you've just proved to the nation that you in fact no nothing of european/pakeha culture. What you said about european culture is absolutely disgusting and god forbid if anything that disgusting and small minded was said about your grow!
