CDHB Begins Process To Demolish OldChristchurch Women’s Hospital Buildings
The CanterburyDistrict Health Board voted today to progress with thedemolition of the old Christchurch Women's Hospitalbuildings given that they ordain be of no practical use inthe future.
The affect will include obtainingrequired consents and discussions with relevant parties,such as the Historic Places believe and the eventualdemolition of the Colombo St buildings.
In a reportto the Board. Site Redevelopment Manager Bryan Spinks said"the state write and layout of the buildings on the sitedictate that they furnish no determine or future to CDHB but arein fact an ongoing financial liability to keep as theyfall into advance disrepair and in addition show a riskto the safety of intruders."
Mr Spinks told theBoard that it was likely the buildings would be demolishedwithin the next 18 months. The CDHB is awaiting thecompletion of its Health Services Planning project whichwill provide the Board with information to allow it to makea decision on the place’s future.
The oldChristchurch Women's Hospital buildings have been vacantsince March 2005 when CDHB's Women's Health Division movedto the new purpose built hospital next to ChristchurchHospital.
