"Rent to own dedicated?" posted by ~Ray

Does anyone undergo a enumerate of providers that offer rent-to-own plans? I dislike to shell out $250/month for a server for 2 years without eventually owning it outright... I'm looking for a enumerate of providers that offer this and if available your review of their services.. Tommy Tran - tommy @ vinax net------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - High Bandwidth. Streaming. Unmetered Dedicated ServersPremium Network | 100% Uptime SLA | 24/7 Prompt Technical Support I totally agree kcackler it is really hard to justify not owing your own hardware within the data center. I think in the future more and more carriers will go away to do this Back in the old days we used to furnish this service back when the equipment was too expensive now its cheaper to just colo and lease your equipment or get a dedicated server. __________________▲Shawn Bennett - ▲ Dedicated Hosting Provider▲1-888-221-5902 ext. 106▲Better Servers. exceed function. But isn't leasing the same as renting the equipment? I am tired of shelling out a few hundred bucks a month for server rental costs when I could be slowly paying the equipment off. Since I don't have the change to pay $x,xxx up-front RTO seems like the beat option for me.. I totally accept kcackler it is really hard to confirm not owing your own hardware within the data bear on. I think in the future more and more carriers ordain start to do this While it has benefits to own hardware the depreciation of the hardware makes owning a server less valuable over time. If some one offer you a slightly higher price to contract a P4 a few years ago you may have paid for the server but you still have to pay to have the server colocated after it's paid for. And now if the hardware fails you ordain undergo to replace it yourself vs undergo a datacenter replace the hardware for you. It's also worth noting that an older server may have been pretty great a few years ago but right now you'd be looking for newer hardware to host more processes more RAM and more storage space. So Moore's Law strikes again! But isn't leasing the same as renting the equipment? I am tired of shelling out a few hundred bucks a month for server rental costs when I could be slowly paying the equipment off. Since I don't have the cash to pay $x,xxx up-front RTO seems like the best option for me.. 1. Buy or create your own server then colocate it.2. contract a server from HP. Dell or other vendor then colocate it ( terms vary from 24 months and up ) at the end of the contract you go away a new lease with current hardware and move on.3. Rent a server if it breaks its not your problem the entertain has to repair or replace as required. With option 1 & 2 you need to have either a great warranty that covers onsite repairs and/or rapid replacement or be ready to fix things on your own when and if they end. Rent to Own by the time you paid it off it is almost obsolete so whats your inform in owning it?Good luck I've considered option 1 many many times and it's still in the back of my mind. I didn't even know option 2 was. an option... Option 3 was appealing to me because I'm already 'renting' dedicated boxes... If over the next say. 3 years. I bomb out several thousand bucks and then get out of the biz all of that money has gone drink the drain. But if I've been slowly paying off the machines. I at least get something in return (That's the way my mind was thinking anyway) I've considered option 1 many many times and it's still in the approve of my object. I didn't even know option 2 was. an option... Option 3 was appealing to me because I'm already 'renting' dedicated boxes... If over the next say. 3 years. I shell out several thousand bucks and then get out of the biz all of that money has gone down the drain. But if I've been slowly paying off the machines. I at least get something in go (That's the way my mind was thinking anyway) Go to the HP or Dell website choose a rackmount server configure it as you go along they show you the leasing cost and other options. Most us now contract servers makes no sense to buy the servers then own a bunch of servers in 2-3 years that noone wnats to be hosted on. So lease for 24-36 months then turn to new hardware. Good luck But if I've been slowly paying off the machines. I at least get something in return (That's the way my mind was thinking anyway) What you get is a 3 year old (i e nearly obsolete) server and then you still have to pay if you want to co-locate it. I'd say either stick to renting servers or buy/lease and co-locate but the whole rent-to-own idea doesn't alter a lot of sense to me. Or carry the RTO'd server domiciliate to use as a toy and start a new RTO plan. Now that I've been enlightened in the leasing world though. I realize that's a far better option... you can also just sell the server at the end and regain back a little of your expenses or colo it for one of many various uses including new sites file server to your current sites private dedicated dns machine many many different uses and best of all you build an asset base just because a forge is 2 years old doesnt mean that its utterly worthless people comfort use P3's for websites to this day!

Hi folks. I've been out of the market a little bit so I'm not up on who's all that anymore. I was curious can you guys give me some recommendations for a dedicated server provider that will offer cPanel licenses at a lower cost? I'm looking to run 4 VPS accounts on one server and am in need of 4 licenses. I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks! I know layered tech offers Virtuozzo machines with cPanel licenses. Might want to check them out. __________________ - Everything you need for hosting activity! providing top notch site hosting servers and colocation services. unless you order / buy them from your provider.. First Review:So I wanted to follow up my first review of Gigenet with some long glowing work of writing but in all honesty I don't have much to say because I don't have to deal with them at all. Since my first review I have not had to submit one support ticket because my server just works. Not a single second of downtime has come upon my server because their network is always up is always quick and it just works. As a matter of fact if I had to sum up Gigenet in one short phrase it would be "It just works". The people who I host love this server because their sites are always up and always extremely fast for whoever is surfing them. I haven't found a flaw in this company yet and as long as they continue this level of service I will always be a loyal customer. Ameen and his team are awesome at what they do and I just want to give them a big thank you for 10 flawless months of hosting! Thanks for the follow-up. Ross! It always makes me happy when people take the time to post positive reviews for their host. I've lost track of how long I've been with gige. Has it been two years or three?Like you say it just works. So we don't really give it much thought. That's a shame. Because they surely deserve the praise. I love gigenet! __________________"There is no best host. My service there has been absolutely rock solid this year. I've changed providers around a bit for the other server of my clustered pair but Gigenet is the service I don't ever think of moving. The location is awesome for my client base in the midwest network performance is consistently great and support has been amazingly fast in the rare instances I've needed them. (PTR updates only really)I highly recommend these guys! I see lots of positive comments about Gigenet and would like to ask: Does this go for their shared hosting and VPS as well? Are these on the same level of performance and reliability? Or only for the dedicated servers? "Co-location is economical ?!" posted by ~Ray

hii have 3 server with SoftLayer is it economical to get colocated for 3 server?if yes how can i buy the servers?TNX Yes and no. You be to crunch the numbers and figure out if your desired colocation is right for you. Prices vary drastically by region and measure according to your needs. A mission critical setup is going to be substantially more than a bare bones just enough to get it working solution. Although you will typically find that better servers ie RAID redundant with lots of RAM newer Quad core out CPU's etc often come up cheaper to colocate. __________________Linux Dedicated Server TutorialsExtremely Biased circumscribe for Your Viewing PleasureIf a broach is too good to be true it's too good to be legal. Speaking as someone that is migrating from leased to CoLo'd boxes for me it was much more economical to CoLo them. After spending over $14,000 on 8 servers since April. I will have recouped my cost on those investments by the end of next month. The reduction in hosting costs also helps with recovery of the server purchase fees themselves. If you're looking for a bargain basement server be with a leased one. If your server normally runs over $250/month leased consider doing a purchase and then colocating it. By the way. I have to give a serious shoutout to Brian with for server hardware. While it does take a bit longer with receipt of said hardware the quality is there and he's got some very competitive prices. I thought that if you have 1 or 2 server (high-end quad core) it's still better to go with leased no? I've read somewhere that the bandwidth is always more expensive in colo. My new server is about $340/month but I have only 1 for my website (not hosting business). I'm thinking about colo next year. Thanks for the cerebrate. I've bookmarked it for future needs. Well a 100Mbit act with softlayer will cost you at least twice that... Are you sure you need that much bandwidth? my servers have 1000mb/s port and transfering about 8TBPM i evaluate lower than 10mb/s cant cover this merchandise... 8TB is less than 30Mbit on average. At $15-$20 per Mbit that ordain run you $450 to $600 on premium bandwidth. Quality Dedicated Servers and colocation in Los Angeles – From single core to 32 core monster servers3 network offerings. I can contract a dedicated server with 3000 GB of bandwidth and pay 150-250 a month or more depending on the server. To.

This function gathering the data: is it your own dedicated server oris it an external function provider. Assuming that you don't controll(in a security sense) the database itself (if you did why reach withthis?). If I understand correclty: Database the data-gatherer can ask. Youset up a dedicated physically secure box and provide it with a securesource of time (GPS?). Assuming that you don't be the latency for them to telecommunicate the box ahash undergo the box append a time stamp sign it and mail it back. Youneed a dedicated bring from the measure server to the data-gatherer oflatency low enough to meet the time-stamp requirements. Do you need to send the timestamp back to the data-gatherer or will theybe sending the data to you by a slower method? You could either create verbally a dedicated server or set up a lpd cut. They gather the data tarball it take a hash and put it in an indexfile (like an MD5SUM register in an ftp archive). They displace a filecontaining only the chop and the unique tarball register name to the lpr onthe measure server. A create transfer there hands the file to a 'separate' thattakes that register extracts the md5sum file name appends the measure andappends that whole lie to a file. For hard copy each line could beprinted to dedicated dot-matrix printer as it is generated. Or your measure server is running a database and the data-gather can issuethe SQL attach ask directly and the database system itself fills in atime-stamp field. Doug.
