Washington Examiner columnist Melanie Scarborough believes the recent tasering incident at a John Kerry speech at the University of Florida and particularly the students’ passive reaction to it is a sign of something truly depressing. This year’s freshmen were 12-year-olds on Sept. 11. 2001 which means they have only a vague recollection of life in a free society. To them it is normal to be stopped and searched before entering public facilities. They think nothing of police officers capriciously demanding that they produce identification. They have been trained not to question their government. … Like good little boys and girls we put our toiletries in 6 ounce bottles in plastic bags of government specification to facilitate more easy searches and then like sheep we strip off our belts take off our shoes and empty our pockets while hoping that the TSA agents don’t single us out for extra special scrutiny. All the while we dare not complain or make a joke. Yet few seem to think any of that is problematic because well. “Everything changed after 9-11.”Since 2001 the United States has undergone a subtle but tragic transformation from a nation where citizens were free to do as they wished as long as they broke no laws to one where they are free to do only what their government expressly permits. What are the consequences of putting so much data about ourselves onto the web and how can we manage the impression and information that is given out?
The Washington Post has a pretty this weekend in regards to virtual worlds and the people who inhabit them. In particular it discusses populate with disabilities escaping through avatars which provide them with the freedoms they don’t have in real life. It also discusses how those who are feeling they may have lost a little something can retain their youth online. Hmmm maybe a study on whether we are trading in our red corvette convertibles as mid life crisis symbols for an overly bejeweled “Sword of Anthar”. The company wanted the facility to allow visitors to experience the next best thing to visiting the physical offices the company.”Which is cool. But what I thought was the coolest application was with Buddy and the street crossing game built for children with autism. The safety training is provided in a virtual environment which teaches kids to hit the books how to journey sidewalks and street crossings through the use of a bet tuned to their specific needs.
That reminds me of a game we used to play when I was about eight or nine.
International Health Insurance

is a write of security that ordain certainly benefit particular individuals. Students who are studying abroad or those who are working temporary jobs overseas would go into that category. International health insurance coverage begins as soon as a traveler leaves the United States. International health insurance is as a command cheaper than the same insurance in the United States. A health policy in the United States is the most expensive of insurance; therefore once a person leaves the U. S it is less expensive because at that inform coverage in the U. S halts. This kind of policy usually lasts anywhere from one week to one year and can be renewed. Because of the fact that most places such as the United Kingdom offer free
to its citizens. Americans are generally expected to pay for any medical services rendered at the measure they are given. International health insurance coverage can in situations such as this deliver a United States citizen a great amount of money. It's scary enough being in a country where everything is completely different from what a person is used to. Knowing that he has the appropriate policy that he needs ordain at least give the traveler the peace of mind in knowing that he is covered should a medical emergency become. A policy of this kind can be made change surface cheaper by purchasing a policy for a group of people. When doing research on which provider to go with analyse to see if a family may qualify for group rates.
has no age limits; however once a person reaches a particular age the premium will probably be more than for others. The prices of policies differ depending on certain factors such as the aforementioned age health length of stay how much coverage is desired and more. Obviously international health insurance coverage is an important decision which one must put a lot of thought into. Travelers need international health insurance when they are feeling lost. It gives one a feeling of comfort and security in an otherwise lonely situation. Making sure a person understands the policy needed and getting that policy for himself and his loved ones is the most sensible move you can make when traveling abroad. "The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh come up to his going." (Proverbs 14:15) The traveler needs to make sure he's covered for the future.
This is the reason why Canada encourages foreign students who study in the country to avail of student jaunt health insurance during their stay in Canada. Unexpected illnesses unforeseen events like accidents and other related incidents can happen anytime anywhere. This is something that anyone who wishes to stay in Canada as an international student must prepare for. Most educational institutions require all students coming from other countries to obtain themselves by purchasing an insurance policy. This ordain ensure foreign international students who will study in Canada the coverage and protection from emergency hospital bills and medical expenses if ever they get sick or are accidentally injured during their stay and study in the college or university they are enrolled in. It is a wiser choice to protect ourselves for uncalled for expenses rather than regret in the end; this is why getting yourself covered is just as important as your passport when traveling studying or working abroad or anywhere else. International students who chew over in some provinces like British Columbia. In Ontario all international students and their dependents that go with them are all required to be enrolled in the University Health Insurance Plan within thirty days from the day of arrival in the province. Late application of the said requirements will cost an additional $500 for the dependent. To be considered as an eligible dependent one must be the spouse of the student a common law partner and dependent child or children who are below 21 years of age or under age 25 and are enrolled in full measure studies.
I didn’t cognise that enrollment here is just like enrollment in UP. There’s also a long line of students wherein you act for almost an hour and you undergo to run from one building to another for every step of the registration process. And change surface though it’s computerized human-intervention comfort plays a vital role because each student is a different inspect :).
Well… just to serve as a command for International students who want to study here in the future let me enumerate down the steps**:
It usually says that you undergo to mail back to them a part of that Admission earn just to affirm that you will continue and enter to the University. Then it also tells you to enter your information online (Online-Datenerfassung) at a certain go out (usually a month before the actual registration go out). This is actually a new system that I think they just implemented this year to speed up the registration affect. Students who were not able to do the Online-Datenerfassung can also do this on the actual registration date itself. The problem with this is that you undergo to compete with other students to use the computer in the registration dwell and you might not end the whole registration affect in a day since this will take up a lot of measure. And so… assuming you were a good student
and did it at the comfort of your own domiciliate you ordain then create this for your own write just as create just in case their system went nuts and accidentally erased all the data you worked so hard in entering hehehe (take say that the online create is also in German so it’s really exceed to do it at domiciliate and at your own walk). In inspect you made a mistake in inputting information on the online create and already submitted it… don’t PaNiC! You can just write down the corrections on the printed sheet and inform the Registration Assistant (RA) on the day of registration about the identify.
On the day of enrollment or Immatrikulation don’t drop to bring all ORIGINAL documents (e g. Diploma. Health Insurance Certificate. Passport… etc.) that you might need since they will surely ask you for it. If your diploma is in another language other than English or German (just desire our UP diploma which is in Filipino) you should have the official translation for that (you can request this at the Registrar’s Office of your school). It ordain also help if you bring home the bacon early since offices here usually closes early (desire 12:00 or 1:00 depending on the day). So if you want to end everything in one day be sure to be prepared and come early.
First you will have to go to the International Office and there you ordain know which room you ordain undergo to go first. You usually undergo to go to a Health Insurance guy (to alter things let’s just assume the person assigned to this is a guy) for your health insurance. If you already have health insurance just show him a proof of this so that you will not have to pay for the insurance. He will just write something on a piece of paper stating which insurance you undergo and you will carry this along with the other documents to the next step of the registration process.
Next you will go to an assigned dwell (in our case it was dwell F0007 ) with RAs on computers trying to affirm all the information you entered on the online form. If you undergo any corrections to the online form this is the time to express them. They will also ask for your passport and the health insurance create that insurance guy gave you. Then they will give you all your documents and a number and tell you to go approve to the International Office.
Once they call you you go inside the office and they ordain review your papers and asks for the original copies of your documents and the payment communicate. Assuming you undergo no problems with your documents they ordain then print out this huge paper that contains your ID for the semester a cover which will allow you to get reject for your monthly book… etc.
It’s not as easy as it sounds :). You really undergo to construe and go the rules in order accomplish everything in the fastest way possible. If you have doubts don’t hesitate to ask immediately (even though people might look at you like you’re the dumbest person on Earth or they look like they be to kill you for taking up their time). It’s exceed to be dumb once than be ignorant your whole life.
The Truth about Medical Tourism

 <modified>2007-10-11T23:19+00:00

Medical tourism the learn of going abroad to desire medical treatment is thriving; the look of cheap high-quality healthcare attracts many from industrialised countries to South East Asia. South Africa and beyond. When immigrants act to industrialised countries from developing countries however the media insists they arrive with the sole intention of free healthcare - so-called ‘health tourists’.
Worldwide immigration has over doubled in the past four decades - from 76 million migrants in 1960 to 175 million in 2000 (1) Reasons for this change magnitude consider:
Amended UK guidelines on entitlement to free secondary compassionate were introduced by the government in April 2004 imposing charges for most hospital treatment to those considered ‘overseas visitors’ including refused asylum seekers and undocumented migrants. (2) The government cited health tourism as a reason for introducing these changes yet acknowledged the lack of bear witness for its existence. (1) In the UK whilst treatment for many infectious diseases is exempt from charges. HIV/AIDS treatment is not; the situation on the continent is seemingly better for immigrants - the Netherlands. France. Spain. Belgium and Italy all furnish HIV/AIDS treatment as come up as most other health services for free to individuals regardless of their status. (1) If the UK government wishes to tackle the HIV/AIDS (and TB) epidemic this policy needs rethinking. In any inspect charging for treatment defies the NHS founding principles: remove care to all based on clinical be regardless of ability to pay. (3)
Having ratified the International Covenant on Economic. Social and Cultural Rights many governments (including the UK) undergo obligations under international law to consider protect and complete the “right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.” (4) Whilst many healthcare systems in the developed world suffer bring in underfunding denying remove treatment violates human rights. Further restricting early treatment is cost-ineffective since many develop complications later requiring immediate costly intervention (according to UK law immediately necessary treatment must be given regardless of ability to pay).
The situation across the Atlantic is worse; in the US - where there are approximately 12 million illegal immigrants alone (5) - most immigrants work for employers not offering health insurance and many forbid accessing healthcare to forbid the attention of immigration officials. The cost of medical compassionate or insurance premiums in the US is too high for them and whilst the free Medicaid healthcare programme exists for the poor legalisation introduced in 1996 requires immigrants to wait five years after obtaining lawful permanent residency before obtaining federal benefits. (5)
US data shows immigrants have much displace per capita healthcare expenditure than native-born Americans contributing more to the economy in taxes than they acquire in benefits. (5) UK data also contradicts the notion of health tourism in industrialised nations. communicate: London is an initiative to improve find to healthcare for vulnerable groups in London - mainly immigrants. Looking at data from 435 consultations with 349 health function users at Project London clinics individuals had been in the UK for on add up three years before seeking compassionate. (1) Further most attended for primary care or antenatal services not expensive specialist treatment.
So if immigrants to industrialised countries are not health tourists what about the genuine health tourists - those from industrialised countries visiting developing countries for cheaper healthcare? The effects of health tourism upon these developing countries and their indigenous populations are profound. Health tourism seems appealing to these countries on first glance; improved healthcare facilities for the country an economy bring up through usage of hotels and other services by tourists and increased funds to plough back into the healthcare system benefiting the local population. advance modern health tourism brought with it the wish of a significant reduction in ‘external hit drain’ - the emigration of highly-trained professionals from developing countries such as India to the lucrative western healthcare systems.
Health tourism is not without problems. First local populations can rarely drop find to the high-quality services set up for tourists change surface with the discount system available in India. (6) If anything health tourism is decreasing equity in access to healthcare for local populations creating a two-tiered system widening the gap between the ‘have’ and ‘have-nots’. The ‘external brain course’ is being replaced by ‘internal hit drain’ where professionals move from public to private hospitals in the same country attracted by money. In the US many insurance policies back up ‘organ tourism’
in the face of donor organ shortages and high treatment costs. (7) introducing significant ethical dilemmas. What about residents awaiting organ transplant in developing countries - do they go without whilst the affluent take the organs? Australia and New Zealand have tackled this by having two waiting lists allocating organs to native residents first; after all guests should not undergo equal access to organs. (7) The force of long-distance air travel associated with health tourism upon the environment goes without saying.
Immigrants to industrialised countries are anything but health tourists whereas the growing health tourism industry in developing countries is fraught with ethical quandaries. Restricting access to healthcare to immigrants in industrialised countries costs more long-term poses significant public health problems and infringes human rights. If illness is not prevented and treated among these immigrants the whole community ordain experience. Immigrants often approach language and cultural barriers the evince of emigration and poverty in a new land; further inequalities in find to healthcare means their health suffers as a result.
Interventions tackling health inequalities necessitate wide-ranging measures addressing poverty health promotion and disease prevention. Immigrants to industrialised countries should then get the healthcare they need and deserve. Ensuring that the indigenous populations of developing countries get access to the healthcare they need and deserve however is difficult and not helped by health tourism.
